To connect a fuel line fitting, first determine the type of fitting you have. Many are threaded, requiring the use of a wrench. Others have a quick connect fitting, where a gentle push is all that is needed until an audible click is heard, confirming the connection is complete. If the fitting is NPT, thread sealant is required to prevent leaks. Another type of fitting involves the hard fuel line being flared with tube nuts securing the connections on both ends against the flares. Tightening it to the corresponding component seals it properly.

To determine what fuel line connector types you have or need, first confirm how it connects. If it has a plastic connection with a plastic lock, it more than likely is a quick-connect fitting. If it is threaded, the most common threaded fittings are inverted flare and NPT (national pipe thread) such as 3/8 fuel line fittings and 1/4 fuel line fittings. Another style fitting uses a compression design with brass couplers and ferrules or aluminum tube sleeves and nuts. AN fuel line fittings are common on racing applications as well as aircraft and marine use.
