Carburetor Adapter Plate Kits & Parts

Without an adapter, there would not be a way to attach a carburetor to an intake manifold with different mounting configurations. Carburetor adapters solve this problem. They allow a seamless connection between the carburetor and manifold with correct air flow between the two.

In many instances, using an adapter plate for carburetor and intake manifold installation will allow you to make two parts fit together that you currently own without having to purchase a different one to complete your project. For example, you can use your factory Quadrajet (spread bore) intake manifold with a performance square bore carburetor instead of purchasing a different intake manifold that will have the same bolt pattern.

A carburetor adapter kit is required when the carburetor will not bolt directly to the intake manifold due to the bolt patterns or the intake plenum shape not matching between the two. One of the most common examples is bolting a 2-barrel carburetor to a 4-barrel intake manifold.

Installation of a carburetor adapter plate is simple in most applications. The first step to install an adapter is to determine which side goes to the carburetor and intake manifold based on matching the bolt pattern and shape. Next, clean the intake manifold and carburetor mounting surfaces. Now you can place the included carb adapter gasket from the kit on top of the intake manifold. The adapter with the correct orientation is then placed on top of the gasket. In most cases, bolts are used to secure the adapter to the intake. The carburetor gasket is then laid on top of the adapter. The carburetor is then placed on top of the gasket and then bolted down to the adapter plate. It is important to make sure the adapter, gaskets, and carb is lined up and properly tightened down onto the manifold in order to prevent vacuum leaks. The rest of the components, such as the air cleaner, vacuum lines, fuel line(s), and linkage can then be connected to allow the engine to be started, confirming everything is working properly.
