How To Install JEGS Front Disc Brake Conversion Kits

Due to the different brake, steering, and suspension systems that different year, make, and model vehicles use, the steps to install the conversion kit will vary. It is important to follow the included instructions for proper assembly and operation of the brakes. However, general steps for a disc brake conversion include the following:

  • Safely raise and secure the vehicle to allow access to the brakes.
  • Remove the wheel and tire assembly.
  • Remove the brake drum, shoes, hardware, wheel cylinder, and backing plate.
  • With all drum brake components removed, clean, inspect, and prepare the spindle for disc brake assembly.
  • Install the inner bearings on the spindle.
  • Install the brake caliper support bracket(s).
  • Install the brake rotor as well as the outer wheel bearing, retainer, and nut.
  • Install the brake caliper with bleeder screw facing up.
  • Install the brake booster (if included) and master cylinder as well as the proportioning valve.
  • When the kit is installed, top of the brake fluid and bleed the brakes.
  • Lower the vehicle back to the ground and test brake operation.
