Comp Cams Xtreme Energy roller cams are designed for compatibility with the latest advances in valvetrain design; however, due to their aggressive design, it’s not advisable to pair your camshaft with stock valvetrain components. With their precision grind, Comp cams Xtreme Energy cams enhance acceleration, torque and overall engine performance by boosting airflow and cylinder efficiency. Unlike some performance-oriented cams that can start to lose vacuum at idle or low RPM, Xtreme Energy cams are designed for improved vacuum performance for power brakes and other accessories, enabling a longer duration phase. 

Fitment, Compatibility & Applications 

JEGS stocks Comp Cams Xtreme Energy camshafts for most small-block and big-block V8s from Chevrolet, Ford, Mopar and AMC. They’re a great way to optimize an engine build that also includes an aftermarket intake, carburetor, headers and ignition along with lower rear end ratios. Comp Cam packages are denoted with a “CL” for camshaft, lifters, assembly lube and instructions. Complete Kits will have a “K” that signifies cam, lifters, timing chain and gears, valve springs, retainers, locks, assembly lube, decals and instructions. The Small Kit will have an “SK” by the part number and will include cam, lifters, timing chain set, assembly lube, decals and instructions. Depending on your preferences and performance goals, Comp Cam lobe profiles range up to .580” lift and 294 degrees of duration, and some cams are rated up to 6500 rpm. 

Cams and kits that are designed for the strip and a high-RPM stall speed converter are also likely to have a rough and lopey idle, and will perform best when matched with the right intake and headers. As always, be sure of your vehicle’s year, make, model, trim level and engine size when ordering, and it’s advisable to do some research to find which intake, headers, carburetor and other details will be the best match with the camshaft you have in mind.
