- Note: the key to identifying the gm 8.2 is the shape of the housing and the spacing between the lower bolts on the cover. the gm 8.2 has a smooth, round lower case area, with an 11 in. cover that has a diagonal indentation at the top or a 10 5/8 in. irregular-shaped cover. the pinion nut should measure 1 1/8 in. (as long as it is the factory oem pinion nut)

Differential Identification:
The key to identifying the GM 8.2 is the shape of the housing and the spacing between the lower bolts on the cover. The GM 8.2 has a smooth, round lower case area, with an 11 in. cover that has a diagonal indentation at the top or a 10 5/8 in. irregular-shaped cover. The pinion nut should measure 1 1/8 in., as long as it is the Factory OEM pinion nut.
