Race car pedal assemblies are levers in the vehicle footwell area that the driver applies input against to control the engine throttle, vehicle brakes, and transmission clutch (if equipped). They can be hanging or mounted to the floor and are connected with either cables or rods.

Racecars typically have either two or three pedal systems depending on the application. One is to apply the brakes to slow down or hold the vehicle still. A second pedal controls the vehicle throttle to control engine and vehicle speed. An optional third pedal is for manual transmission applications in which the clutch is controlled in order to change gears.

Depending on the application, race cars can have floor-mounted or top-mounted / hanging automotive pedal systems. Which type is used is a matter of driver preference and comfort in some cases. In other situations, pedal mounting design is chosen due to space limitations.

Depending on the application and pedal setup, the steps to install a race car pedal assembly will vary. Floor or firewall-mounted pedals require holes to be drilled to mount the assembly after determining the ideal mounting position. The throttle rod/cable, brake rod or master cylinder clutch rod or master cylinder are then installed to work correctly with the pedals. Hanging pedals require a solid anchor point under the dash to bolt the assembly in place. The throttle, brake, and clutch cables/rods or master cylinders can then be assembled to work with the automotive foot pedals.
