JEGS 555-30525 Header-Back Dual Exhaust Kit Notes:
- Exhaust kit is designed for 1978-1988 GM G-Body that was originally equipped with a Small Block Chevy engine. Does not fit ANY Cutlass Supreme model.
- Designed for use with 555-640600 (TH350), 555-640601 (700R4) or 555-640603 (TH400) and header set 555-30060 (sold separately)

The fit.
The exhaust system fit the 1985 Monte Carlo nicely. Only slight adjustments had to be made. I would definitely recommend it.

I order this with the mufflers. Mufflers are inlet/offset and outlet/offset and all steal kinda heavy for mufflers. Mufflers did not work with me. Bought new ones inlet/offset outlet/Centered. You will need an aftermarket crossmember with dual exhaust in mind. Installed on 81 El camino. With 2 1/2 inch pipes, will challenge you, when trying to tuck into the valley with the driveline. The clamps are the 5/16 diameter vs the usual 3/8 . You will be spending alot of time on it to make it work. No exhaust tips included.

Great price if you are willing to do the work.
I can't attest to the installation of this kit as intended, because I also purchased a Jegs H-pipe and planned on installing cats on my car. So, I knew that I would need to fabricate some things. Off the bat, I will say that the hardware isn't great. I have never had success with the thru-bolt poly bushing hangers, so I bought some universal hangers from the local parts store and used them instead. I did have to slightly dent the driver's side pipe in order to clear the floorpan. The tailpipes were dead-on with the bends, wrapping over the axle and clearing the coil springs and upper control arms perfectly. Due to me installing this on an El Camino, I had to buy some additional pipe to extend the tailpipes to the rear. The mufflers are 14" turbo mufflers and give the car a nice, quiet rumble. I don't experience any real drone while cruising, but keep in mind that my cats and H-pipe may be aiding in that.
In summation, use different hardware. Be prepared to cut and weld as needed, especially if you are going to be adding cats or a crossover pipe. You do need a dual exhaust crossmember.

be prepared to do fab work (85 monte carlo ss)
I bought this kit with the expectation of doing fab work since I had patriot headers and not the jegs brand. I'm an ASE master certified tech and have access to hoist/tools to make install easier (less hard). Also wanted to run the mufflers I wanted not the ones that came in the kit. That being said, the intermediate pipes needed to be cut 3x each and re welded not only because they were too long but also to "reclock" the bends. The tail pipes fit nicely but the drivers side was a little tighter fit than I wished it was. I had to cut off about 2-3" from upstream side of tailpipes. The hangers were completely useless and the clamps were really low quality. I guess overall I'm not sure this is something I'd recommend if you plan on doing this in your driveway in your back; at least not for what I saw in my monte carlo ss. But if you have a hoist and have a professional who can install it, it will be a good starting point.
