I just bought a 2025 Subaru BRZ.
I’m interested in having a header system installed that can be switched between full headers directly out and back to the stock cat – muffler duel exhaust.

Congrats on the new BRZ, and it’s great to hear you’re looking to unlock more sound and performance right from the start. What you’re describing is exactly where exhaust cutouts come into play, and the Granatelli cutout systems are a smart solution for what you’re trying to achieve.
To give you the flexibility of switching between a full header-to-stock exhaust and a more aggressive, uncorked setup, you’d install electric exhaust cutouts just after the headers or in the mid-pipe section before the catalytic converters. When the cutouts are closed, exhaust flows through the stock catalytic converters, resonators, and mufflers just like from the factory. When opened, the cutouts divert exhaust gases out of a bypass pipe, typically venting just underneath the vehicle — usually right beneath the floor area around the transmission or just behind it, depending on space and layout.
As for fumes, yes, they can be an issue if the cutouts are opened while idling or driving slowly, especially in enclosed areas. Because the exhaust exits under the car and ahead of the normal tailpipe location, there’s a risk of fumes entering the cabin at low speeds or when sitting still. When used responsibly and only at speed or in well-ventilated areas, it’s generally not a concern, but it’s worth keeping in mind for safety.
For your BRZ, you’d want to pair a quality header system with cutouts that can be operated from inside the car. This gives you the best of both worlds: stealthy daily driving and aggressive sound and performance when you want it.
