In any vehicle, one of the most important components that affects the driving experience are the car bucket seats. But, what are bucket seats? The name comes from the way the seat is designed, which hugs the sides of the body, similar to sitting in a "bucket". This helps keep the driver or passengers from sliding out of place. This is important as a seat that is uncomfortable or does not fit properly affects driver performance, causing a distraction and taking focus off enjoying the ride or winning the race. JEGS has a large selection of seats for virtually any vehicle from universal to specific fit.

What Is A Bucket Seat?

A bucket seat is an automotive seat that is designed for one person as opposed to a bench seat, which spans across the interior from driver side to passenger side, typically capable of providing seating for up to three people either in the first or rear (2nd row). A typical bucket seat for car has side bolstering and support to the legs and body to keep the driver or passenger from sliding around.  Seats are available in different materials such as cloth, velour, leather, and others.  Bucket seats for sale are also available in colors like black, red, tan, and other shades as well. Racing seats also are available in different styles. Reclining bucket seats allow the user to change the angle of their seat for better comfort and visibility from reclining. Low back bucket seats are ideal for smaller passenger compartments without head support. A high back seat is like a low back, but with additional height to support the head. Sport seats typically refer to bucket seats for truck and car applications that have holes above the shoulders for racing harnesses

How To Install Racing Seats

Installing racing bucket seats requires some careful planning and installation. The first step is measuring the amount of space you have from the floor to the ceiling for bucket racing seats. You also need to measure side-to-side and front-to-back room. Finally, the height of where you sit needs to be measured so that you don't sit too high and hit your head or helmet into the vehicle's roof. The height of the seat brackets will need to be taken into account with the selection of the seat. Next, select from aftermarket bucket seats that you like and check measurements and dimensions. Once a correct size racing seat is selected that will fit both you and your vehicle, choose the aftermarket bracket to attach it to the floor.

Next, you will mock both the bracket and seat into place in the vehicle and check for seating room, adjusting the brackets and seat where they need to be. Finally, you will drill holes to bolt the bracket to the floor and the bracket to the race seat and tighten everything together with hardware. In some cases, you may be able to reuse factory seat mounting studs or holes as well as use seat adapter brackets that fit to your vehicle's floor.

How To Make Bucket Seats More Comfortable

If you have seats that are not comfortable, you may try to add some seat padding on top of the seat or back or bucket seat covers. However, there aren't many options beyond that to make the bucket car seat more comfortable. Purchasing a replacement seat may be the only way to improve driver or passenger comfort.
