    Hello I am looking to get a complete drive train replacement for my 1970 Chevelle. I am interested in either the ATK or blueprint 390 HP option as well as a TH350 transmission behind it (flexplate and torque converter as well). I am looking to do this build as cost effective as possible without giving up quality. The Chevelle has 2.73 gears in the back (maybe an upgrade someday to 3.55’s). I have a new 3 core radiator and twin electric fans for it already. Just looking for a nice cruiser with some get up and go once in a while from street light to street light. Looking for a recommendation. Thanks

      Chris, for what you are describing a 390 horsepower small block with a TH350 is a great fit for a street driven Chevelle, and both ATK and Blueprint Engines offer solid options in that range. The biggest difference usually comes down to how the engines are assembled and tested.     Looking to put a bit more power into a 1989 F-150 Super Cab/Short Bed (purchased new 351W /5.8L paired with a 3 speed C6 (no overdrive). Still runs very strong with 365,000 miles on original components still producing 135 psi +/- in each cylinder and torque converter continues to shift tight & hard with little to no play in the driveline.
    Will continue to be a reliable driver for years to come, however,, this is a upgrade necessary to make a difference.
    Hoping to tap out at around 400 HP +/- a little bit, keep it within a reliable street rod capacity and regular driver.
    The question is Blueprint, ATK or another reliable competitive manufacturer in he 7K-12K range fully dressed with EFI upgrade.
    Asking for myself, no friends have a truck this cool! 🙂 LOL

      Mr. Burton, first off, 365,000 miles on the original 351W and C6 is seriously impressive. That says a lot about how that truck has been cared for. If you are looking to move into the 400 horsepower range and still keep it reliable as a regular driver, you are in a very realistic window for a properly built 351W based crate engine. Both Blueprint Engines and ATK offer solid small block Ford options in that power range, and both brands have good reputations for street driven combinations. Blueprint Engines is well known for their dyno tested long blocks and fully dressed packages, and many of their 351W builds are set up with aluminum heads and hydraulic roller cams that are very street friendly. ATK also offers 351W based performance engines that are designed to balance drivability and power, and they tend to stick close to proven combinations with good torque curves, which works well in a heavier truck like your F 150. With a C6 and no overdrive, torque down low and midrange power are more important than chasing peak horsepower numbers. For your goal of around 400 horsepower, I would stay with a hydraulic roller cam, aluminum heads in the 170 to 190 cc intake runner range, and an EFI system that is calibrated for street use. A throttle body EFI system from brands like FiTech or Holley can work well on a Windsor and will give you modern drivability without getting overly complicated. The key is matching the cam profile to the C6 and your rear gear so it does not feel lazy off the line. In your budget range of 7K to 12K for a fully dressed setup with EFI, you are in the right ballpark. The biggest decision comes down to whether you want a long block and choose your own induction and accessories, or a turnkey style package that is ready to drop in. Since your truck is already proven reliable, it may also be worth confirming your rear gear ratio and overall condition of the cooling and fuel systems so everything supports the added power.     I purchased a motor that is claimed to be an ATK and there is a little metal plate with the number 4080274144 stamped on it, I was wondering if that could be found in your records

    I am going to rebuild my 2011 5.3 chevy LC9 engine out of my silverado z71 4wd 1500 crew cab gear ratio rear 3:73, 245/18 tires ,stock wheels, stock transmission automatic, I have already self deleted dod/afm by plugging the oil hole in the rear of my engine galley plate and removed the dod/afm solenoids . Have also plugged the dod/afm lifter oil passage holes in the engine block lands center galley area 8ea. Just under the center plate.with my rebuild on a tight budget do it myself build, I need a set of good roller lifters and a peformance cam to match that will increase my low to mid range power can you point me in the right direction for proper fitment and give me the best power cam daily driver keep in mind with good sound little choppy at idle and peformance above other factory 5.3 silverados. Can you help? Also any other suggestions you could give me on this build with parts selection and up grades would be much appreciated. I am going to re-ring my stock pistons no boaring stock boar. Going with engine crankshaft stock dia. rod & main bearings. Can jegs help me with this selection of engine bearings and or rotating assy crank. I want to use a selling hv hp oil pump need help with this also and need good selection of engine stock piston and boar rings with complete gasket set. I read also about some sort of oil pressure relief valve I know nothing about in or part of the oil pan what to do with this I don’t know? Change spring? Plug the hole? Or what? I don’t want any low oil pressure issues in the future due to this pressure relief valve in the oil pan or what ever it is I have read about. Please provide me with parts, kits of any sort and advise on what I need with your professional advice from your engineering department. I am 62 years old grew up in a chevy dealership shop my dad owned back in 70’s, worked as mechanic all my life but most of it was after completing a associate of science degree in aviation maintenance & engineering technology. So I have basic mechanical background just FYI. I hope you understand all my questions here and understand fully what king of budget engine build I am trying to accomplish if you can put me up on a short block with dod/ afm delete I may consider this. Since you’ve already handled the DOD/AFM delete the right way by plugging the solenoids and oil passages, you’ve got a solid base for adding a performance cam and valvetrain that won’t be held back by factory fuel-saving limitations.

      For your goal of a daily-driver-friendly cam with more punch than stock and a little choppy sound at idle, look for a cam with around 210 to 218 degrees duration at .050, lift around .550, and a 112 to 114 LSA. These specs will give you a great blend of drivability and added torque down low, especially with your 3.73 rear gear and 4WD setup. Several brands offer drop-in cams for non-DOD setups, and JEGS carries performance cam kits that come complete with matching valve springs, retainers, and pushrods for ease of selection.

      For the lifters, a good quality set of standard hydraulic roller lifters will match up perfectly since you’re staying with the stock block and non-VVT setup. Stay away from cheap or questionable aftermarket lifters. Comp Cams, Howards, or Lunati are excellent choices and are all available through JEGS.

      Since you’re staying with standard bore and re-ringing the stock pistons, you’ll want moly-faced rings for better sealing and durability, especially if you’re doing a fresh hone.       About the oil pressure relief valve in the oil pan: late-model Gen IV LS engines often have a bypass valve built into the pan. If you’re concerned about oil pressure dropping, you can install a block-off plug or stiffer spring kit depending on the pan design.
