The first step in fabrication of a race car aluminum sheet metal floor is to make sure the chassis and area the floor will be installed in is clear to allow measurements to be taken and templates to be fitted. Next, confirm with your race class rule book (NASCAR, Sprint, etc.) on how the floor must be made and if there are any restrictions in fabrication and assembly. Next, for large areas, measure out sections that will fit the main part of the floor. Next, if possible, find cardboard from unused boxes will allow you an easy way to trim a template and test fit along the outer edges of the floor for the front firewall, center console, roll cage, sides, and back. Once happy with the templates, they can be laid over an aluminum sheet and outlined so that metal fabrication can be completed, cutting to the exact shapes needed with a tool such as metal shears or a cutting wheel. Finally, the race car interior sheet metal floor can be pieced together, and then welded, bolted, riveted, or fastened into place, depending on your race class rules and needs. The interior floor project is then complete.
