Jr. Dragster Driveline Components

Upgrading or replacing your Jr Dragster driveline components helps to duplicate the same results race after race from replacing worn out or inferior parts. This consistency is what you need at the track to dial in your ET time and to help produce race-winning results.

Having fresh or upgraded Jr Dragster driveline clutches and components lengthens the life of your vehicle and reduces time required to repairs. Performing proper checks and testing of parts in addition to changing them before they become a problem will result in more confidence that is needed to win in a Jr Dragster race.

Jr Dragsters use multiple parts to create their driveline system, which provides the transmission of power from the engine to the wheels. These components can include drive and driven sprockets, axle shaft, drive chains, as well as clutch components (drive clutch, driven clutch), top plate, moveable and stationary sheaves, spider assembly, roller bearings and bushings, springs, flyweights, driven helix and poles, reverse driven fixed and moveable sheaves and springs, as well as cam followers. Additional parts may be included, depending on the driveline setup.

Depending on the design, the way a Jr Dragster clutch works will vary. For example, the JR Race Car Shockwave multi-clutch setup uses a drive clutch. It's job is to build the energy through centrifugal force to provide clamping and shifting. The Jr Dragster secondary clutch / driven clutch provides a resistance to the shift and clamping force needed to help the drive clutch push harder on the belt before shifting. The moveable sheave pushes in on the belt and transferring torque from the engine to the belt.

Depending on the Jr Dragster clutch that is installed, the removal process will change. The manufacturer instructions are the best source of information for removing the clutch. In some applications, the single clutch mounting bolt is taken out. If the clutch does not slip off, a slide hammer is needed with the same thread on the outer clutch to pull it off and complete removal.
