It’s not often that a transmission fails so catastrophically that it explodes and sends parts and shrapnel flying, but it’s not unheard of either. That’s why a scattershield is mandatory for many drag racing applications, protecting both the driver and bystanders.
Safety should be the top priority in any motorsport or competition, and a scatter shield can give you that extra margin of safety and peace of mind. In a drag racing situation, the entire drivetrain is put under extreme stress and load, and the heavy duty construction and materials of a quality transmission shield can contain any fragments or failed parts that can come loose during a transmission failure. Put simply, it’s a smart modification to reduce the risk of injury or damage should things go wrong.
