Clutch Pressure Plate
Connecting the engine flywheel to a manual transmission is the clutch. The clutch includes the disc, pressure plate, and release / throwout bearing. The disc is installed between the flywheel and pressure plate (which are bolted together). Once the engine is running, and when the clutch pedal is released and the transmission is in gear, the release bearing allows the clutch pressure plate to apply pressure against the clutch disc, essentially wedging it against the engine flywheel. This engagement then rotates the transmission input shaft, gears, and the rest of the vehicle drivetrain, including the wheels. Over time from wear and age, the clutch components, including the clutch pressure plate wear and degrade, requiring replacement.
While clutch kits with matching components are available, clutch pressure plates are also available separately based on application needs. When choosing a replacement clutch pressure plate, first confirm the year, make, model and engine size of your vehicle. If the engine is completely stock, a clutch pressure plate for stock applications is sufficient. However, if the horsepower of the engine has been increased, confirm the clutch and pressure plate being selected is rated above your engine's horsepower output. For custom applications, additional specifications need to match your vehicle's needs such as pressure plate diaphragm type, bolt pattern and size. From the remaining compatible options, choose the clutch pressure plate that meets your vehicle's needs best as well as your budget.
JEGS offers a diverse clutch pressure plate selection to choose from, offered by top brands like Centerforce, RAM Clutches, Tilton, Quarter Master, Crower, and others. Each pressure plate clutch is made from high-quality materials, components, and assembly to provide the drivetrain performance your vehicle needs.
