Speedometer Drive Gear
Speedometer gears are small components located in the transmission of a vehicle that drive the speedometer cable and indicate the speed of the vehicle through the speedometer. The speedometer drive and driven gears function by converting the rotational motion of the transmission output shaft to the linear motion of the speedometer cable. As the output shaft rotates, the speedometer drive gear(usually around the output shaft) meshes with the driven gear (usually perpendicular to the drive gear) on the speedometer cable, which causes the cable to rotate and spin the speedometer needle in the gauge. The speedometer gears are typically made of plastic and can be easily replaced if they become worn or damaged. A malfunctioning speedometer gear can cause inaccurate speed readings on the speedometer or cause the speedometer to stop functioning altogether.

When choosing a speedometer drive gear replacement, the first step is to confirm the year, make, model, and transmission type of your vehicle. Next, confirm the correct drive and driven gear tooth count combination that will create an accurate speedometer reading. This is done with a formula that includes the rear gear ratio and tire diameter. From the remaining compatible options available, choose the one that best fits your application needs.
JEGS offers a large speedometer gear selection to choose from, available from the best transmission component brands in the industry including TCI, Fairchild Automotive, Rugged Ridge, Yukon Gear, Scott Drake, and many others. Each speedometer drive gear and speedometer driven gear is made from high quality materials and assembly to provide long-lasting performance you need to monitor your vehicle's speed.
