Rated 5 out of 5 by from GET THESE, not torque-to-yield bolts During my C4 Corvette LS1 swap, I had purchased genuine GM TTY head bolts. If you’re familiar with these, they have a torque angling sequence. Well, on bolt number 4, I was almost at 90 degrees like GM calls for, and the bottom part of the bolt broke off INSIDE THE BLOCK. A quick search on LS1Tech and other LS forums revealed that this is actually more common than you’d think…. After going to a few difference machine shops, one of them was able to extract the broken part of the bolt (it was over 3 inches below the deck). Many many people told me before hand to go with studs, but I didn’t listen. It costed me time, and money. The ARP bolts came nicely packaged, and were simple to install. I followed the instructions without deviating (I seen some people say lubricate the bottom with oil, but most people said install them dry). I did use the ARP ultra torque on the threads at the top, and on the bottom of the nuts. Had absolutely no issues whatsoever. Make sure to chase your threads either with a professional bit, or just cut a few slots in an old TTY bolt like I did. Don’t be like me and break off a TTY bolt in your block… get ARP head studs. And they’re made in the USA, which we all should be supporting.
