Specifications:
Magnaflow Pre OBD-II 49-State & Canada Polished Catalytic Converters are designed for engines built before 1996. Each converter has a ribbed stainless steel body that minimizes expansion and distortion when the converter heats up. The ribs form a channel that protects the cushioning mat from direct exposure to exhaust gas and they hold the ceramic catalyst in proper alignment. A mirror polished OE-style ribbed heat shield creates a rigid wall of protection against heat and adds to the structural stability of the converter. Magnaflow converters have a 1/2" lap-joint where the necks meet the body. The neck does not extend into the converter body where it could hamper exhaust flow. This is the strongest and smoothest flowing inlet/outlet joint of any manufacturer. A monolithic honeycomb catalyst is utilized. The ceramic is designed for maximum flow and surface area. The coating method is strictly controlled to maintain exact specifications. .
Selecting the Proper Universal-Fit Catalytic Converter for 49 States and Canada
Determine engine size and vehicle weight first. Converters are listed according to legal engine size and vehicle weight. Determine the type of converter being replaced. PRE OBD-II converters are for vehicles built before 1996. If the vehicle was built in 1996 or after, an OBD-II converter must be used. If engine has been changed and is not the same model year as the chassis, proceed as follows:
Check whether the converter is a 2-Way, 3-Way, or 3-Way + Air. In order to properly determine which catalytic converter to use on certain applications, it is necessary to determine the type of catalytic converter originally used on the vehicle. Required by the EPA, this information is on the vehicle emission control label located in the engine compartment in a visible position on the hood underside, shock tower, radiator support, fan shroud, or firewall.
Note: 49-state catalytic converters are not legal for sale, installation, or use on licensed vehicles in the state of California.
