Timing Chain Covers
Omix 17457.05 AMC V8 Timing Cover for 290, 304, 343, 360, 390, and 401 V8 Engines is a direct replacement for the factory cover. This replacement timing cover is made with aluminum alloy material, die-cast for strength, and precision machined for a perfect fit. These covers are prone to fail in the oil pump cavity due to oil contaminants and gear tolerance issues that can cause low oil pressure or no oil pressure and catastrophic engine failure. The oil pump cover and gear set are not included and can be purchased separately. We recommend Omix oil pump cover 440-17470.15, Federal-Mogul Sealed Power oil pump gear kit 844-224-51285, and Clevite MAHLE Timing Cover Gasket Set 695-JV870
Omix 17457.05 AMC V8 Timing Cover Notes:
- Low oil pressure is the number one cause of engine failure in AMC V8 Engines. Oil Pump Gear tolerance is very important and must be checked during assembly. Please refer to the AMC TSM (Technical Service Manual) for correct tolerance settings and procedures. The gear to bottom cover clearance should be set at .0025-.0065 to ensure good oil pressure at idle.
