Oil Cooler Block-Off Plate
A GM LS 5.7, 6.0, 6.2, 7.0, 4.8, and 5.3 oil cooler block off plate is a device used to bypass or eliminate the factory oil cooler in GM LS engine applications. This plate is typically made of aluminum or steel and is designed to be installed onto the side of the oil pan above the oil filter mount. The function of the oil cooler block-off plate is to prevent engine oil from flowing to the cooler, which can be beneficial in certain circumstances. For example, when a vehicle is used in cold weather conditions, the oil cooler can actually work against the engine by keeping the oil too cool, leading to poor engine performance and reduced fuel economy. By blocking off the oil cooler, the engine can warm up faster and maintain optimal operating temperature. Additionally, if an oil cooler is damaged or fails, or there is a GM 5.7, 6.0, 6.2, 7.0, 4.8, or 5.3 oil cooler block off plate leak, the block-off plate can be used as a temporary solution until the cooler can be replaced.
