Gauge
A gauge gives you a real-time window into what your engine is doing, and having the right ones mounted where you can see them is one of the smartest things you can do for any build. Oil pressure and water temperature are the two non-negotiables: oil pressure tells you your engine is getting the lubrication it needs, and water temperature lets you catch an overheating problem before it turns into a blown head gasket. For forced induction builds, a boost gauge is just as critical, showing you exactly how much pressure your turbo or supercharger is pushing into the intake so you can confirm your tune is on target and catch boost leaks early. And if you want all your key readings in one matched, clean-looking package, a gauge set covers oil pressure, water temp, voltage, and fuel level in a cohesive style that looks purpose-built rather than thrown together.
When shopping for gauges, start with mounting location and diameter. Most aftermarket gauges come in 2-1/16-inch and 2-5/8-inch diameters, and you'll need to confirm what fits your dash, gauge panel, or pod before you pick a style. From there, choose between electric and mechanical gauges. Electric gauges use a sending unit threaded into the engine and wire back to the gauge, making for a cleaner install with no fluid lines running into the cabin. Mechanical gauges use a direct connection, either a tube carrying oil pressure or a capillary line for temperature, and deliver a direct reading without electrical components in the loop. For oil pressure gauges, electric is the safer choice for in-cabin mounting since it keeps oil out of the passenger compartment. For boost gauges, a boost reference line runs from the intake to the gauge and is typically straightforward to route. Always match the gauge's ohm range to your sender for accurate readings on electric setups.
JEGS carries a wide selection of individual gauges and complete gauge sets from the best names in the industry, including Auto Meter, Classic Instruments, VDO, Stewart Warner, Intellitronix, and JEGS. Whether you're adding a single oil pressure gauge to a weekend build or wiring up a full custom dash with a matched gauge set, you'll find the right gauges in our lineup to keep you informed of every vital sign your engine has.
