If you have a high performance race engine with locked out timing, cranking the engine can really put a strain on the starter and flywheel. This compact controller provides a retard that automatically retards the timing during cranking to ease the pressure. The Starter Saver wires into your ignition system and can be programmed to retard the timing 10° or 20° during cranking and is deactivated once the engine reaches over 800 rpm (If the rpm's drop below 500 it will activate again). The Starter Saver receives the trigger signal through an MSD Crank Trigger pickup or the distributor's magnetic pickup. This control has a very accurate pickup compensation circuit resulting in rock steady timming throughout the entire rpm range of your engine. There is also an LED that illuminates with each trigger signal to confirm operation and the circuitry is completely potted in a polyurethane compound for extreme vibration resistance.

  • Plugs into an MSD Distributor or Crank Trigger pickup
  • Built-in LED monitors trigger input signals
  • Built-in signal stabilizer produces steady timing at all rpm
  • Unit is completely potted with Ciba polyurethane compound
  • Must be used with an MSD Ignition Control, magnetic pickup trigger

  • Can only be used on V8 applications using an MSD Distributor or Crank Trigger
  • Not legal for sale or use on pollution-controlled vehicles

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works just as stated. Reduced timing and my 15 to 1 engine turns over easierly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works as advertised. Running an older 6AL box. Now easily able to crank motor with stock type starter when hot due to the function of this device. Engine is 11:1 and 18deg initial timing. 10/10 would recommend.
