JEGS 555-603025 GM 4L60E Performance Automatic Transmission IMPORTANT Notes:
- This JEGS Performance Transmission has gone through rigorous testing to provide you with the best possible replacement transmission
- Here are a few tips to ensure a successful installation
- Follow the manufacturer's instructions thoroughly
- Before installation, flush any old fluid from your system, including transmission lines, oil cooler, and torque converter to remove any contaminants that could harm your new transmission
- When installing your torque converter, follow the instructions carefully to ensure proper fitment into the transmission input shaft and also attaching to your engine. Specific tolerances are required so that you do not damage the front pump in the transmission or the converter.
- This Unit only works in vehicles with a 13 Pin wiring harness connector
- The Transfer case adapter and shifter bracket are NOT included
- This 4L60 transmission includes the bolt-on bell housing to fit GM LS-Series engines (Pre-LS engines should use transmissions 555-603010 or 555-603015).
- The transmission can also be used in an older vehicle when converting to an electronically controlled overdrive transmission. The conversion to older vehicles will require the use of a transmission controller, crankshaft spacer, special cross-member, driveshaft changes, and other modifications (these parts are not included with the transmission).
- If you have any problem installing this transmission, before returning it please call the JEGS technical support line. Our experts may be able to assist you with the proper installation.
FAQ
What is the most common problem with the 4L60E?
The most common problem with the 4L60E transmission is issues related to its torque converter, such as lock-up clutch failure or solenoid problems. Regular maintenance and timely fluid changes can help prevent these issues.
Can you put a 4L60E on a 5.3 LS?
Yes, the 4L60E is compatible with the 5.3 LS engine. It's a popular choice for LS engine swaps due to its versatility, smooth shifting, and electronic control capabilities, providing an efficient transmission solution for your 5.3 LS-powered vehicle.
Is it worth rebuilding a 4L60E?
Rebuilding a 4L60E can be worthwhile, especially if the transmission has specific issues but is otherwise in good condition. It allows you to address problems, upgrade components, and extend the life of your transmission, providing a cost-effective solution compared to a full replacement.
Can you run a 4L60E without a computer?
No, the 4L60E requires an electronic control system for proper operation. The transmission's shift points, line pressure, and other functions are managed by the computer. Attempting to run a 4L60E without a compatible computer system will result in improper shifting and potential damage to the transmission.
